a FISH and chip shop in Belper is throwing its batter behind a campaign to have St George’s Day declared a public holiday.
Customers at George’s Tradition, on Bridge Street, will be able to sign a petition from this Friday, April 1, until Saturday, April 23.
The shop supported the same campaign last year and a spokeswoman said: “This year, our campaign is strengthened by the fact that we have an additional bank holiday for the Royal Wedding. If they can do it for William and Kate, then surely we can have a public holiday in honour of our patron saint?”
You can sign the petition online at www.georgestradition.co.uk or www.thethorntreeinn.co.uk.
