Temporary lights are in place after heavy rain caused a wall to collapse onto a road.

The at the side of Starkholmes Road gave way, causing soil to spill onto the road.

The area has been cordoned off and temporary traffic lights have been placed at the scene.

A Derbyshire County Council spokesman said: “During heavy rain last week a section of stone retaining wall collapsed and fell into Starkholmes Road taking a large amount of garden soil with it.

“It affected the road width enough for us to install temporary traffic lights to ensure safety for road users.

“The wall borders a privately-owned residential property but although responsibility lies with the homeowner our structural engineers have visited to offer advice and support to get the stone cleared and the wall rebuilt as quickly as possible.”
