Derbyshire police are searching for a burglar who stole a laptop and jewellery from a house, and left a trail of confections behind as they made their escape.

Officers said the burglar, who smashed the glass of a door to enter a property in Anson Walk, Ilkeston, left a trail of sweets through the house as they raided for valuables.

The force said in a statement: "

Sometime between 4.40pm and 6.20pm on Tuesday, April 5, a burglar smashed glass in the door of a house in Anson Walk, Ilkeston.

"They took a laptop and earrings. They left a trail of sweets up the stairs, possibly to distract the victim’s dog."
