Strutt book bought at American sale

A religious book belonging to one of the sons of Jedediah Strutt has returned to Belper after it was found by a minister in America.

The copy of “Forms of Prayer for the use of a Congregation of Protestant Dissenters in Belper” was printed by Belper based S. Mason in 1823 and belonged to George Strutt. It was found by a Presbyterian at a second hand book sale in Maryland.

Mary Smedley, Belper Unitarian Chapel Heritage Officer, said: “It is amazing that a book which has travelled so far has found its way back to the town of its origin almost two hundred years after it was printed.”
