Thefts from cars threat

RESIDENTS in Belper are being urged to be vigilant in the run-up to Christmas after a number of thefts from cars.

Police say thefts from vehicles have risen in the last few weeks, with satellite navigation systems, handbags, wallets and a variety of other valuable things stolen.

Sgt Richard Booth, who runs Safer Neighbourhood policing in Belper, said: “We are urging the public to ensure that their vehicles are locked at all times and not to leave valuables on display.

“Do not hide anything in your glove compartment. If a thief does get into your car, this will be the first place they look.”

Leaflets have been distributed providing simple tips on how to prevent your vehicle from being a target.
