poignant tributes to tragic Belper teenager Tom Chandler that were left at a recreation ground in the town are to be removed.
Amber Valley Borough Council is to take down the flowers and other tributes, including football shirts, adorning a fencing at Whitemoor Recreation Ground, Whitemoor Lane, on Friday, April 15.
Tom, 19, was found dead at a friend’s house in Belper on Tuesday, March 8. His funeral, 16 days later at St Peter’s Church in Belper, attracted hundreds of mourners.
Now, with the blessing of Tom’s family, the council is to remove the tributes.
A spokesman for the council said: “We are returning the area to a public recreation ground. Some items are starting to blow around.
“If anyone wants to retain the tributes they can go and get them.”
He added that the council will keep any unclaimed tributes for a week. They will be kept with the recreation ground’s groundsman.
