Town pair are winners

TWO artists from Belperhave landed honours in a Derbyshire competition.

Among the winners were Anthea Tassell, with a piece called Long Row and Jo Kirk with Apples and Bottles.

They were winners in the Derbyshire Open Art Competition 2011.

Matlock artist Harry McArdle took the top prize of £750 with his dramatic landscape painting of the Dark Peak, seeing off competition from more than 450 entries.

Artists from Buxton, Ashbourne, New Mills and Wirksworth were also judged to be the winners.

The annual Derbyshire County Council competition is open to amateur and professional artists and has prize money totalling £2,000.

This year there were 90 more than last year, with competition tougher then ever.
