two chefs from Belper can claim they helped a top snooker player to victory over cue legend Stephen Hendry.
For Ben Pollock, 26, of Kilburn Lane, and Steven Shepherd, 31, of Long Row, welcomed Mark Selby in to the restaurant at Mosborough Hall Hotel in Sheffield where they work on the eve of his World Championship clash with seven-time world champion Hendry at the Crucible.
The dish the Belper pair served up certainly had the desired effect as the ‘Jester from Leicester’ raced to a memorable 13-4 win over the veteran Scot.
Selby also set a new Crucible record of six century-breaks in one match.
The star chose one of the healthier dishes from the menu at Darcy’s Brasserie before taking the time to meet the Belper duo.
Executive head chef Ben said at the time: “The whole hotel team is backing Mark in his quest for glory. We wish him all the success through the final stages. It was a pleasure to cook for him.”
Selby was eventually knocked out in the quarter-finals.
