PEOPLE in Belper have been learning how the River Derwent provides energy, thanks to the Transition Belper, group.
Alongside Jon Needle, of Derwent Hydro, the group has been spreading the word, with many people having no idea the river is used to generate green electricity.
Energy producer Derwent Hydro has stations at Milford Mill and Belper East Mill. At peak river flow, the Belper turbines can produce enough electricity to power about 700 homes.
The group is giving energy-saving tips and plans to fit draught-proofing to houses with no access to mains gas.
