Transport secretary approves works at snarled roundabout

Works are set to be carried out to improve a roundabout in Little Eaton which is regularly snarled-up with rush-hour traffic.

The A38 Little Eaton roundabout will have existing traffic signals converted to run full-time and the A38 northbound lanes will be widened along with the northbound section of the roundabout.

The A61 lanes on the
approach to the junction will also be widened and the B6179 arm will be moved so that it is aligned with the enhanced junction.

Belper MP Pauline Latham said the improvements had been secured after she raised it with Derbyshire Dales MP Patrick McLoughlin – who was appointed Secretary of State for Transport last month.

She said: “I am delighted that my fellow Derbyshire MP, Patrick McLoughlin has listened very carefully to me on the issue. I am particularly pleased that after listening to my arguments, he has decided to act so quickly in authorising the funding and ensuring all the work will be undertaken and completed in 2013. As Patrick is local it meant that he was able to understand the issues.”
