Use old TV or recycle

RESIDENTS in Belper are reminded not to throw out old TVs because of the digital switchover.

Derbyshire County Council says that even very old television sets can be easily converted using a set top box.

But the authority warned those who were getting rid of old TVs because of the switchover to make sure they were taken to the nearest household waste recycling centre.

Cllr John Allsop, cabinet member for recycling and technology, said: “Recycling electrical goods means valuable parts like plastics and metals can be reused in new products.

“It also means the potentially toxic elements in some of them don’t end up in landfill.”
