Village prepares for annual show crowds to descend

Thousands of people are set to descend on the tiny village of Windley next week for the annual Turnditch & Windley Show.

The event, which started as

a garden party organised by the WI at Lady Inglefield’s house now regularly attracts more than 4,000 people, including hundreds of exhibitors and a huge range of attractions.

This year the event will take place on the showground off Wirksworth Road on Saturday, September 7 from 8am to 5pm.

Among the attractions will be: falconry displays, horse & carriage driving, a Shire Horse parade, Morris Minor Club, vintage tractor competition & display, Red Cross Victim Support Vehicle, pet show, WI crafts, hog roast barbecue, Shottle Brewery Bar, trade stands, sideshows, Tombola, and amusements/activities for children.

Competition classes include flowers and produce, an open pet show, various children’s classes, floral art, flowers, fruit, vegetgables, eggs, cakes, preserves, handicrafts, art, photography and various horse and pony classes.

Entry is £5 for adults, £3 for OAPS andchildren under 16 get in free. Free parking is available.
