VILLAGES in the Belper area can help celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games — Derbyshire style.
Derbyshire Village Games is seeking villages from across the county to organise their own mini-Olympics.
The scheme’s project manager Hayley Lever said: “We are looking for pro-active villages to run Village Games or Olympic events, give an Olympic feel to their carnival, gala or fete, or to get involved with Olympic-nics.”
“Some people say that they don’t feel like the London Games is having an impact on them. This is a way to change that.”
Co-ordinators will work with parish councils, sports clubs and community groups, school PTAs, or groups of friends, to get something started. They can provide checklists, poster templates, ideas for events and equipment.
Ideas include Olympic-nics, torch relays or opening ceremonies.
If you would like to get involved, go to www.villagegames.org.uk for more information and for contact details of your local village games co-ordinator.
