Organisers of Belper Wakes are seeking a £2,100 grant to help them run the popular annual sporting event.
The project is hosted each year by Belper Meadows Cricket Club and is focused on resurrecting the community activity day which was founded during the 1950s.
This year fine weather brought hundreds out to try the different sports on offer in May and organisers are hoping it will mean many more people take up sports and get active as a result.
Belper Town Council was to consider making a contribution to the £3,200 running costs of the event at a meeting last night.
The Wakes were an annual fixture in the 1950s, but gradually faded away until it was resurrected around the Golden Jubilee in 2002.
