A STUDENT from Denby has competed in the 2012 Olympics stadium in London as part of a test race.

Alexandra Turner, aged 20, ran in the 800 metres at the British Universities and Colleges Championships, which took place from May 4 to May 7.

Representing Nottingham Trent University, Alexandra came third in her first race and qualified for the semi-finals – where she narrowly missed out on making the final - falling short by half a second.

She said: “It was amazing – it was the biggest track I’ve ever competed on!”

Alexandra trains with Amber Valley Athletics in Ilkeston and studies sport and leisure with psychology and education.

With a current personal best of two minutes, ten seconds, one day she hopes to compete at the Olympics.
