a BUTCHER from Belper was surely wondering if a customer was telling ‘porkies’ when they handed him a strange request.
For Tim Howarth, of Jerry Howarth Pork Butchers on King Street and High Street, was asked if he could make a tiered pork pie ‘cake’ for a wedding in Doncaster.
The three-tier pie, which was separated by glasses of confetti, weighed 8kg and made up the centre-piece of the happy couple’s evening buffet. They had a traditional cake for the reception during the day.
Tim admitted he was worried at first, but now says he would love to make another one.
He said: “They were chuffed to bits with it. It’s the first one I’ve made, but I really enjoyed it!”
Ironically, Tim’s daughter Rachael, 19, is well on her way to a career making and decorating wedding and birthday cakes and is already taking regular orders.
