Work accidents

NEW statistics have revealed Amber Valley has the most workplace accidents in Derbyshire, with two deaths and 72 major injuries recorded in the borough last year alone.

Those included the case of odd-job-man Raymond Corner, who plunged to his death from scaffolding in Smalley on October 22, 2010 — the day after his 57th birthday.

On the injured list was Allestree woman Kathleen Phillips. She had a 37kg roll of felt fall on her after it crashed through a skylight at her workplace in Ripley.

Roofers Jason Lunt and Gregory Wright were handed a suspended prison sentence for causing Kathleen’s injuries. They were re-felting the flat roof of the office block at the time.
