A CHRISTMAS fair at a Belper church has been hailed a big success — after £808 was raised.

The event was held at the Central Methodist Church, on Chapel Street.

Attractions included a Santa’s grotto, tombolas, a raffle, games, and stalls featuring things like jewellery, cakes, crafts, books and bric-a-brac.

Anne Kettlewell, one of the organisers, said: “It went very well. We haven’t raised that much for a couple of years. It was a big success.”

The money will go into church funds.

On Saturday, December 3, between 10am and 1pm, the church is holding a toy collection in aid of the Derby City Mission.

To be held in the church hall, organisers will provide coffee and mince pies for anyone who brings in a new toy for the collection.

Church steward Doreen Scotney said: “We want toys that are suitable for children aged up to 16 years. But they must be new toys.”
