Six young chefs were given the chance to take part in a cookery masterclass with a seasoned professional.

The young Derbyshire residents, aged between 12 and 16 years old, were invited to take part in the class at Tideswell School of Food were hand picked after they entered winning recipes in the Junior Masterchef competition as part of the Peak District Food and Drink Festival.

The young cooks learnt a few tricks of the trade during the masterclass - skills which they took with them to the first ‘cook off’ at the Devonshire Dome, part of the University of Derby campus in Buxton.

The final ‘cook off’ will take place at the dome of Saturday.

The winner will be selected from a panel of judges including Alan Hill, chef patron at the Devonshire Arms in Beeley, and Simon Bradley, head chef at East Lodge Hotel in Rowsley.

The winner will be crowned the Peak District’s Junior Masterchef 2012, as well as win a special prize courtesy of the renowned Denby pottery.
