IN the Derbyshire County League Division One, Stainsby Hall increased their lead at the top after another 27 point win, this time at home to Matlock last Saturday.
Stainsby Hall were all out for 92 in 39.3 overs. Eddy Lowe (4-18) and Steve Haslam (3-22) were Matlock’s best bowlers in their first game of the season.
In reply, Matlock slumped to 89 all out in the 44th over. The only Stainsby player of note was
David Smyth who took 4-17.
There was another home win at Aston on Trent as Denby suffered a second successive defeat following relegation last season.
Aston on Trent again managed a 22 point win in their second game of the season.
The visitors, Denby, batted first scoring 128 all out, with Aston’s bowlers winning the day thanks to brilliant performances from Mohammed Tassadaq (4-20) and Ahtesham Yaqoob (3-44).
Aston reached their target at 131-7 in 40.1 overs with Shahid Khan hitting 48 and Denby’s captain Joe Greenhalgh taking 3-20.
Third from top in the table are Swarkestone who got the best of a winning draw at home to Staveley Welfare.
Swarkestone were first to bat scoring a respectable 241-8, Tom Anderson earned 70 not out and Michael Scott 67 while Ben Peake took 3-52 for Staveley.
In reply, Staveley closed on 185-8 with both John Douglas and Darren Nicholson hitting 47.
It was a close match between Shipley Hall and Nutbrook with Shipley batting first scoring 165-8.
Mark Starr had a knock of 55 not out and captain James Cokayne added 37.
Richard Cutts had a return of 6-22 for Nutbrook.
The home side, Nutbrook responded well overtaking Shipley in the 49th over at 166-5. Richard Henshaw reached a fine 76 while Daniel Haddon took 3-42 for Shipley.
Rolls Royce (215-9) were successful in their first game of the season against Rolleston.
Rolls Royce batted first and were well served by Omar Yussean (37), Arfan Fazal (34) and Muhammad Sultan (42). Rolleston’s Stephen Scrimshaw had a return of 4-64 and was ably assisted by Pakistani overseas Rizwan Akbar (3-66).
Rolleston’s innings collapsed to 112 all out in the 41st overs. Paul Allen added 30 but the damage was done by Naeem Akhtar who took 6-13 to lead Rolls Royce to victory.
