Stainsby remain top, Denby at the bottom

STAINSBY Hall remain top of County League Division 1 after a winning draw at home to Shipley last Sunday.
They compiled 286-5. Their best batsmen were Tom White 47, Chris Barlow 38, David Smyth 111 and Daniel Wood with 50 not out.

In reply Shipley could only reach 212-9 in the 50 overs. Mark Starr hit 32 and Simon Walker 69 while David Smyth had a return of 4-42 and Andrew Barlow assisted taking 3-34.

Swarkestone have moved up to second place in the table after a 27 point win away to Nutbrook.

The visitors batted first scoring 237-5 with Jamie Guthrie smashing 69 and Luke Thomas adding 57.

In reply Nutbrook’s innings crumbled to 145 all out in the 48th over. Nutbrook’s overseas Warren Ganderton hit 48 and Lewis Kirk 33 while Swarkestone’s bowlers Michael Scott (3-27) and Bruce Dilks (3-41) won the day for the visitors.

Matlock continue to perform well with a winning draw at Denby.

Josh Mierkalns (131) and Andrew Rogers (57) piled on the runs in the first innings helping Matlock to a score of 246-7. Josh Mierkalns got 13 fours and 3 sixes while Andrew Rogers hit 4 sixes. Ahtesham Yaqoob bowled well taking 3-48.

In reply Denby could only manage a score of 178-6, Ben Perry-Taylor hit 33, Stuart Poplar 32 and Bavesh Patel added 35 not out. Relegated Denby remain bottom of Divsion 1.

Aston move down to fourth place in the division despite a win against Rolleston in a closely contested game.

Rolleston batting first set a useful target of 210-6 with Paul Allen 56, captain Mike James 41 and David Bowering with 63 not out. Aston achieved the target with an over to spare, Zain Abbas hit 30, overseas Zahid Mansoor 81 and Haq Nawaz added 50. Rolleston’s Pakistani overseas player Rizwan Akbar recorded 3-57.

Clifton won the toss and sent Rolls Royce out to bat first. They scored 245-9 and were well served by Naeem Akhtar (73), Omar Yussean (57) and Arfan Fazal (44) while Campbell Ogilvie bowled well with 3-75.

Clifton could only manage 202-6 in the 50 overs and settled for a draw despite high scores from overseas Riffatullah Mohmand with 83 and captain Simon Moore (42 not out).

The fourth draw of the day came from Staveley Welfare and Marehay.

Staveley batted first scoring a reachable 183-9. Amongst their best batsmen were Paul May 32, Tom Bullimore 36 and Liam Douglas 34 not out. Richard Wood (3-36) and Ryan Parsons (3-31) took 3 wickets a piece.

In reply, Marehay had a tough task managing a score of only 94-9 in the full 50 overs. Adrian Vickerage hit 33 while Ben Peake led Staveley’s attack taking 4-33

Saturday

After two wins, Stainsby Hall tasted defeat for the first time this season after a loss in a very close game against Rolleston.

Rolleston were all out for 158 with Gareth Marshall scoring 31 and Andrew Barlow (4-44) and Sherrick Chavda (5-54) claiming the wickets for Stainsby.

Stainsby Hall were then all out for 154. Andrew Barlow again hit 30 and Pakistani overseas player Rizwan Akbar took 4-37.
