BARLOW Fisheries is to stage a fun-packed day with free angling taster sessions and guest appearances from the Johnston Press AnglersToday fishing specialists.
The event, sponsored by the Environment Agency, is taking place on Saturday, July 19 and is open to everyone, from absolute beginners to the more experienced anglers wanting to improve their angling skills - everyone is welcome.
Held in conjunction with National Fishing Week, the Barlow bonanza will feature demonstrations and displays as well as competitions with fishy prizes up for grabs. Tuition at the event will be provided by the National Federation of Anglers’ professional angling coaches.
Entomology
If you’re not into fishing but fancy a glimpse into the world of Entomology, the Environment Agency will be bringing along their show stand and will be collecting ‘bugs and beasties’ from the lakes and Barlow Brook. Visitors will be able to view the invertibrates under high powered microscopes. Experienced fly-fishers may be interested in the water insects being caught, it will enable them to create their artificial flies more accurately and ‘match the hatch’ - as the experts say.
Visitors to the event will be able to chat to the AnglersToday crew: predator hunter Andrew Kennedy; ex-England fly-fisher Martin Introna, disabled angling specialist Ian Cloke, Buggyman & Murphy and editor Kevin Miles. Refreshments will be available all day from the on-site snack cabin.
Rex Ward, owner of the fishery commented: 'I hope everyone who has an interest in fishing can visit us for the open day and hopefully catch a few fish. Everyone will be made very welcome - and remember - the angling tuition is free of charge.'
The day ends with a Barlow Bailiffs v NFA coaches ‘grudge match’ to be held at 4.30pm for one hour - watch out for the underhand tactics and fishy antics as the anglers battle for first plaice!
The taster sessions take place from 10am to 4pm - and remember, everyone is very welcome.
