MEADOWS won the toss and elected to bat on a damp pitch.
The innings got off to a fine start with Michael Cox (43) batting fluently and Saikat Sarkar (15) h
itting a fizzing flat six before being the first wicket to fall with the score on 47
Peter Jenkins (51) continued his good early season form with a fine half century but it was the return of the prodigal son Asaad Ali (64) which saw the momentum build scoring 100 runs in the last ten overs and took the final score to 206-5 off the 46 overs.
R Briggs (4-67) was the pick of the South Wingfield bowlers.
The South Wingfield reply got off to a slow start as Joe Carnelly bowled with pace and bounce to claim (3-18) in a hostile opening spell.
Asaad Ali (3-27) bowled within himself but also picked up useful wickets including the experienced Mark Dance (0) who came in at number three.
The mainstay of the Wingfield innings was the knock of A Bacon (36) who was removed by a blinding catch at slip from Pete Jenkins off the bowling of James Cox (1-33).
However, the tail end hung on to claim vital points as the innings closed at 113-8.
BELPER MEADOWS 2nd XI
204-3 (27pts) beat SOUTH WINGFIELD 2nd XI 55 all out (1pt)
Belper lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a lovely flat wicket down at the meadows.
Geoff Cowburn (47) and J Woznicka-Wells (35) compiled an opening stand of 87 off 30 overs and both departed to make way for the stroke players to make hay in the final 16 overs with a sound platform established.
Rob Borland (59 not out) in his first game as skipper played a masterful innings including one huge six into the old Thorntons compound.
Dave Whitely (50) was equally devastating, blazing his half century off only 33 deliveries with a combination of exquisite cover drives and calculated hitting.
A stand of 112 between the two young batsmen showing promise for the future Whiteley only departing in the last over of the innings which closed at 204-3.
The South Wingfield reply got off to a disastrous start as the score limped to 4-5 with both opening bowlers claiming wickets.
