Belper Ladies suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Hilton Ladies in their latest outing.

The game started with Belper controlling the football in midfield with Alex Holland and Lauren Curle being supported by Emma Pickard and Jess Leyshon on the wings.

Attackers Hayley Dolman and Louise Hawley had numerous shots on goal which Belper failed to convert with the shots in easy reach of Hilton’s keeper.

The game ebbed and flowed with stoppages for injuries.

It seemed that Belper were coasting with the run of the ball and possession but against the run of play a Hilton attacker cut through the defence with a run on goal giving Belper’s goalkeeper no chance.

The second half Hilton rallied with some passing balls in midfield looking to feed their attacking forwards.

Belper’s defence of Sarah Jackson, Emma Newton Olivia Pell and Beth Parker tried in vain to keep out lofted balls but a kick from midfield somehow caught goalkeeper Emma Varnham off her line and the ball looped over her head to go in and see Hilton take a two-goal lead.

Belper made substitutions bringing into the game Justine Oliver and Kelly Turner and a tactical switch to put Emma Pickard up front with Louise Hawley.

The impact was immediate with Belper having numerous shots on the Hilton goal with a goal eagerly anticipated.

Belper had to wait little for Pickard to have a shot on goal, which put Belper back in the game.

Despite a fightback, it wasn’t to be and Hilton held out.
