Sports Awards 2013
Sports Awards 2013

It’s time to turn the spotlight on sporting talent in the area as we launch the Belper News Sports Awards 2013.

This area is blessed with an abundance of talented amateur sportsmen, sportswomen and clubs, covering the whole spectrum of sports and games.

So the time has come to celebrate the rich sporting tapestry of our thriving area, courtesy of the Belper News Sports Awards.

This is your opportunity to shine the spotlight of recognition on your chosen individual or teams as you can nominate whoever you consider the area’s best amateur sporting star to be, not to mention the most deserving team, at adult or junior level.

But it’s not just about those at the sharp end, who compete week in, week out in their chosen field.

The area is also packed with dedicated coaches, supporters, parents and benefactors, who go out of their way to help others and ensure our sporting scene remains so healthy and thriving.

The Sports Awards categories are:
n Best Sporting Male (18 and over)

n Best Sporting Female (18 and over)

n Young Sportsperson (for those under 18)

n Team Of The Year

n Coach Of The Year

n Unsung Hero - for those who help to make it happen

Editor Julie Crouch said: “We’re really pleased to be staging our sports awards this year.

“We know there are lots of dedicated amateur sport people out there who achieve great things.

“These people go above and beyond and all in their own time and for the betterment of their local clubs - and without payment in most cases.

“There are some hugely dedicated coaches out there too, particularly those coaching children’s teams.

“Hundreds of youngsters get so much out of taking part in sport in the area and it’s thanks to an army of dedicated coaches and helpers who put their all into making it happen.

“Make sure you tell us about someone you think is a sporting hero - don’t leave it to someone else to contact us as they might not, or think that you’re doing it, and your nominee might miss out.

“We’ve made it easy to nominate too. You can email us at sport@belpernews.co.uk, write to us at Sports Awards 2013, Belper News, 8 Heanor Road, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7 8ER. You can also drop off your nominations in person or give them to our reporters at our surgeries on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Strutts Centre, Derby Road, Belper.

“You can also call Steve Eyley, our sports reporter, on 0115 9446188 to make your nomination. Make sure you give us your nominees detail, contact address and phone numbers - and yours too.

“The News is committed to covering as much local sport in the area as we can so get in touch and tell us about your club or sporting activity as we’d love to hear from you.

“We look forward to receiving your nominations so the Belper area’s sporting heroes get the recognition they truly deserve.”

The winner in each category will be chosen by a panel of judges and the winners will receive their award in a ceremony to take place later this year.

All you have to do now is get nominating.

Please note that the Sports Awards are only for amateurs competing in the area.
