THE ever-popular Bolsover 10K took place once again and fifteen Heanor Running Club members travelled to the north of the county to tackle the largely open and undulating course.

With the race entry limit of 1000 comfortably reached two weeks previously, fears throughout the week were that snow and ice would put paid to the race taking place.

However, conditions were ultimately cold and slightly breezy but better than expected for the time of year.

Following a five minute delay at the start due to the lack of adequate toilet facilities, the race finally got underway.

Recent Matthew Walker 10K winner Chris Rainsford was first home for Heanor RC.

Finding the going tough from the off, Rainsford managed a sixth place finish in 33:27.

Paul Clarke is left still looking for his first sub-36 minute 10K after his 36:43 effort as Joe Rainsford (36:46) battled on with a troublesome knee injury to closely follow.

Josh Housley completed the men’s team scorers with a fantastic new personal best of 38:46 and Alastair Hobday wasn’t too far behind in a time of 38:53.

Jill Burke continued her solid winter road racing form as she finished second female V45 in a time of 41:19.

Yvonne Hobday (43:36) also managed to get in amongst the prizes as she took home the first female V50 age category prize.

The recently-crowned 2011 Heanor RC Most Improved Male, Ed Godber, lived up to his new title as he made it two personal bests in the space of a week.

Following on from his 5:51 mile at the Derby Midweek Mile and 5K event on Wednesday (14/12), Godber improved his 10K time by over a minute to finish 106th in 41:38.

Laura Harvey, the 2011 Heanor RC Senior Female Champion, posted her best time of the year (44:18) to finish 164th out of 768 finishers.

London Marathon

The draw for the one club place for the 2012 Virgin London Marathon also took place at the annual Heanor RC Christmas meal.

With the draw open to all club members that were rejected in the original ballot held in October, Simon Baker’s name was drawn out of the hat and he will go on to compete in the marathon on Sunday, April 22, 2012.
