Denby CC 1sts earned a draw on Saturday in the Derbyshire Premier League but opponents Ticknall finished just eight runs short of victory in a tense finish.
Denby won the toss and decided to bat first.
After a steady start at the Copper Yard, Denby found themselves at 50-3 after the departures of Bradley Davis (20), Rehan Hassan (8) and Peter Burgoyne (2).
Opener Alexander Eyre proved to be the top scorer with 44 out of a total of 194-8 from 50 overs.
He was well supported by Joe Greenhalgh (22) and Michael Mitchell (24).
There were also excellent contributions lower down the order from Jonathan Simms (26) and Will Davis (34 not out).
Ticknall’s reply got off to a bad start when they lost Derbyshire opener Paul Borrington for just six and Luke Harvey for seven.
But Tom Wood (38) and Edward Ikin (35) steadied the ship before the baton was passed to Johnny Thompstone.
His knock of 55 not out took his side to within eight runs of victory but in the end, Denby restricted Ticknall to a score of 186-5 from their 50 overs in this drawn game.
Denby skipper Joe Greenhalgh took 2-35 and there was steady bowling from the rest of the home side’s attack.
