Amateurs suffer heavy defeat as batsmen struggle

Belper Amateurs 2nds 127 all out (2pts) lost to Heanor Town 131-1 (22pts)

Belper lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a decent wicket.

However, the Belper batsmen tended to struggle against a disciplined Heanor bowling attack, with the exception of Gordon Watkins (53), who stroked his second 50 in successive innings.

When wily campaigner and Heanor captain Steve Morley (3-7) came on, he foxed the Belper tailenders with his little in-duckers to end the innings at 127 all out in 31.4 overs.

The Heanor openers responded by batting with the freedom to play a few shots, having 60 overs to chase the winning runs. P. Barlow (36) and M.Fletcher (74*) did not waste any time as the victory target was reached in 29 overs with nine wickets to spare.

The result means the Amateurs slip into the relegation zone with only one month of the season left to play.
