To start July’s cricketing fixtures, Belper Amateurs faced a lengthy trip to Clowne Town on a beautiful summer’s day.
Having faced a plethora of dropouts in the week, Amateurs captain, Oliver Deeming, decided to bowl first due to a depleted batting line-up.
The wicket was hard and low, and Amateurs opening bowlers F Watson, 2-34, and J Deeming, 1-10, kept the Clowne run flow to a minimum.
Star bowler, D Jones, 3-30, bowled superbly and made a diving catch for his second.
There was some resistance from Clowne but when Jones and Watson were brought back into the attack with their armoury of fast bowling and slower balls Clowne were eventually all out for 160.
Amateurs set about their total with a stutter as O Deeming, 9, and S Dymond, 10, fell early to the bowling of S Bennett, 2-32. Paul Spencer followed with a single, leaving the Amateurs struggling on 55-3. Makeshift opener, F Watson, 78, however, remained at the crease. Watson and J Kington 33* provided a partnership of substance, adding 84 for the fourth wicket. Kington remained until the end as Amateurs strolled to a five wicket victory with 8.5 overs to spare.
