Duffield emerged with a winning draw and 17 points from a run-laden Division One clash at Elvaston who finished the game just four runs away from a win.
Duffield were asked to bat first and Jack Clark and Steve Muskett both found the boundary easily in the opening overs.
Muskett was the first to go, feathering a catch behind. Skipper Bakel and Clark kept the good progress going before Bakel was out for 36 on 141-2.
Thom Roe went for 13 but Clark and Jenkins (31) ensured that wasn’t the case as Duffield rattled along to 274-7 from their allocation, Jack Clark finishing with a majestic 129 including 20 fours and a six.
In reply, Elvaston came out all guns blazing and there was relief when Alex Jones bowled Randle for 21. Four balls later he cleaned up veteran Paul Birch to put the toffs back on top at 73-2.
Elvaston continued to pile on the runs Nick Briars (71) and Tom Cosford (65) taking the score on as the hosts went for it.
Persistence from Balraj Johal (5-75) and Pete Jenkins turned the tide. Mills chanced his arm with 29 but Duffield sensed their chance.
Some excellent fielding in the final ten overs and some sensible bowling saw Elvaston continue to gift wickets in trying to keep up the rate, and when danger man Naeem Akhtar was out it was left to Bodill and Lillie to negotiate the final over which they did.
