Saturday saw Belper Amateurs 1st XI travel to struggling Sandiacre 3rd XI in Division 5N of the Derbyshire County Cricket League.
Requiring maximum points in order to push themselves back in to a promotion race, stand-in captain Oliver Deeming decided he fancied a bat upon winning the toss.
Against a largely inexperienced Sandiacre attack, the opening partnership of Oliver and Billy Deeming saw 150 runs added for the Amateurs, before Billy fell for 55.
Closing in on his century, Oliver Deeming set his sights on a declaration in order to give his side more overs in which to bowl the hosts out.
This he did, as the Amateurs motored past 200 runs prior to Deeming’s wicket being taken for an excellent 124. In the conclusion to the Amateurs’ innings, John Beard further enhanced his good form with a quick cameo of 34 not out before the Amateurs declared on 257-4 from 44 overs.
In reply, Sandiacre were bowled out for 106, with Paul Shuttleworth, 52, the only batsman making a significant score for the hosts.
Once again, Paul Spencer starred for Belper Amateurs with the ball with figures of 3-26 from his 14 overs, contributing to the conclusion of the Sandiacre innings after 42 overs.
This was a win, by a margin of 151 runs, which reinstates a glimmer of hope of promotion for the Amateurs.
This means that they are now in fifth position in Division 5N of the Derbyshire County Cricket League, 32 points behind second-placed Alfreton with three games left.
