Denby CC fourths pick up an away win

The fourths also gained 22 points from their trip to Pilsley. The home team were on the edge of disaster at 64 for 7 as Andy Parkin 3-42 and Joe Cherry 4-27 found conditions to their liking.

Pilsley fought back and with Steve Eaton (33) and Stuart Randle (21) offering stout resistance they recovered to a respectable 139 for 9.

Openers Neil Cox with 26 and Mick Bott (25) laid the foundations for victory although progress was not quite as straightforward as they would have liked as wickets fell regularly.

Fortunately, fifteen-year-old George Wilson displayed growing maturity as he made 40 to take his team to within sight of victory which was finally achieved with seven wickets down in the 44th over.

This was a good victory which sees the team comfortably placed in division 8 North with a home game against Swanwick on Saturday 1.30pm start.

The club is hoping the change in weather continues as there are a number of high profile games coming up starting next Monday and Tuesday when the club hosts the ECB Women’s T20 tournament.

The competition will see four counties at the Copper Yard for a series of matches.
