Out of six scheduled games for Saturday, July 7, four never got started due to incessant rain, one was abandoned and leaders Swarkestone managed a victory from an incredibly low scoring game at home to Rolls-Royce Leisure.
Swarkestone’s committee had worked tremendously hard on Friday evening and again after a very early start on Saturday morning to get their Barrow Turn pitch fit for play.
Rolls-Royce lost wickets in cavalier fashion going from 6-1, 12-2 to 40-3, 40-4, 40-5, 47-6, 52-7, 52-8 and 53-9 before the innings closed one run later at 54 all out from 31 overs.
The damage was done by seam bowler Bruce Dilks who took 4-14 from 14 overs, six of which were maidens, and Thomas Knight who finished with 3-21 from 13 overs, five maidens.
Mike Scott picked up 2-2 from two tail-end overs.
Raja Sohail Haider top-scored with 15 runs and was one of only three batsmen who got into double figures. Omar Yussean and Srikanth Venkatappa both reaching 10.
In reply, Swarkestone opener Luke Thomas led his side to victory with an unbeaten 31. Thomas Hamilton finished 12 not out with just the wicket of Jamie Guthrie falling for eight runs at 14-1.
