Duffield CC 1sts suffered a disappointingly heavy defeat at the hands of Matlock in Saturday’s A6 derby in Division One of the Derbyshire County Cricket League.
Matlock won the toss and invited their visitors to bowl first.
Skipper Kevin Leatherday made 43 at the top of the order while the top scorer was Steve Pell with an unbeaten 63.
He received good support from Drew Mullaney with 30 as Matlock compiled a score of 233-6 from their 50 overs.
Luke Webb, Adam Short and Jono Clare took two wickets each for Duffield.
Duffield’s reply got off to a bad start from which they never recovered as at one stage they found themselves 33-6.
Peter Jenkins (37) attempted to lead a recovery with support from Luke Webb and Tom Holmes but Matlock’s bowlers kept the pressure on and eventually Duffield were dismissed for 109 to lose the game by 124 runs.
Chris Pemberton took 4-20 for Matlock.
The defeat means that Duffield have now been overtaken by Elvaston and Quarndon and are now in fourth in the table.
Quarndon moved into third after beating Cutthorpe by 128 runs.
Raja Sohail Haider scored 77 out of Quarndon’s total of 269-9 before taking 4-33 to complete a fine all-round display.
