First win of season gives Belper Amateurs seconds a big lift

Belper Amateurs second XI gave their Derbyshire County League Division 7N survival hopes a massive boost with a four-wicket win at Cutthorpe seconds.

Cutthorpe (8pts) 225-7 [46 overs] (M Platt 41, P Callaghan 38, S Barlow 56, J Thompson 59, Frank Watson 3-45) lost to Belper Amateurs (22pts) 226-6 [28.2 overs] (Frank Watson 114, Jamie Deeming 91) by four wickets.

The Amateurs made short work of reaching their total with Frank Watson smashing 114 and Jamie Deeming 91. Watson had earlier taken 3-45 to finish top wicket taker also.

The win, a first of the season in the league, means the Amateurs are now just three points adrift of second-from-bottom Sawley and Long Eaton Park thirds and only nine away from third-from-bottom Alfreton thirds who are the visitors to the Packhorse Ground this Saturday for a crucial game.

In Division 5N, bottom-of-the-table Belper Amateurs firsts (2pts) 122-9 [46 overs] (Chris Maleham 30, M Pavis 3-36, T Standring 3-22) lost to Sandiacre Town thirds (22pts) 124-2 [31 overs] (M Shuttleworth 66) by eight wickets.
