Belper Meadows 1sts took over at the top of Division 6N of the Derbyshire County Cricket League on Saturday with a comprehensive result at Nutbrook.
Nutbrook won the toss and asked Belper to bat first on a green looking track, which resulted in a steady start before losing three quick wickets, with Mike Cox scoring 25 out of a total of 50 in 18 overs.
This brought together James Cox and Neil Horton, who put on a partnership of over 100 as Horton scored a solid 34 before being bowled which left Cox to bring up his century in the last 44th and last over of the innings.
This was a great innings in difficult conditions against some good line and length bowling.
In reply, it was a case of ‘shutting up shop’ for Nutbrook, who found themselves three down for ten runs quickly.
Both Matt Jones (3-32) and Dan Kelly (3-16) bowled superb spells of bowling as Nutbrook ended their innings on 96-7 in the allotted 44 overs.
This latest positive result sees Meadows take over from their nearest rivals Belper Amateurs at the top of the table.
On Sunday, Meadows moved into the quarter finals of the Wright Cup by beating Littleover by ten wickets.
Adam Holland made 69 and Joe Slater 58 to see Meadows home.
Earlier, Littleover had been restricted to 134 all out, with some good all-round contributions with the ball in which Joe Slater took 5-24. Meadows will now be in the quarter finals on July 7.
