It seems strange to say it - with snow still lying on the ground - but Derbyshire CCC will be in LV County Championship action in under a fortnight.
Karl Krikken’s men have recently completed a pre-season tour of Barbados, where they met up with their new overseas signing for the 2013 season, West Indian batting ace Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who has recently been representing his country in the test series at home to Zimbabwe.
Next up for Derbyshire will be a three-friendly against Somerset, to be played at the County Ground in Taunton from Monday, April 1.
Then there will an appetising two-day friendly at home to old rivals Nottinghamshire, which gets under way on Sunday, April 7.
Then, it’s down to the serious business of the LV County Championship Division One, with two away games to launch the campaign.
First, there is the short trip t to Edgbaston to play defending county champions Warwickshire from April 10, and then on to Lord’s to play Middlesex, from April 17.
Derbyshire’s first home county championship is against Nottinghamshire, from April 24.
