No sign of a victory for Meadows sides

BELPER Meadows first XI are still looking for their first league victory of the new season after being held to a losing draw by Shipley Hall at the Meadows on Saturday.

Batting first, Shipley amassed 202 all out off 45 overs with Matt Murfin taking excellent figures of 6-36 for Belper, he being ably assisted by Matt Jones with 3-54.

For Shipley, Danny Hanson top-scored with 71 and he had good support from James Cokayne (41) and Mark Starr (34).

In reply, the Meadows innings found runs hard to come by and they ended 35 runs short of the Shipley total on 167-6.

Chris Henson finished on 40 not out for Belper with Richard Marsh hitting 36.

Belper picked up 11 points with Shipley taking 17 back with them.

It is a similar story for Meadows’ second and third teams who are also still looking for a first win from what has, admittedly, been a messy start to the new campaign thanks to spells of prolonged rain.
