Alfreton came out on top against Cutthorpe in a match that produced 583 runs.

Alfreton managed to get first use of the pitch after captain Alex Mace had won the toss and chose to bat.

The innings got off to a slow start as, after eight overs, Alfreton were 8-1.

However, that was the last of the slow scoring as Mace came in and made a quickfire 40 before falling to Andrew Knowles, one of his four wickets.

Christian Pratt (41) fell next, before a 155-run partnership off just 138 deliveries between Andy Gwatkin (87 not out) and Jake Simpson (66) saw Alfreton on their way to a huge total.

This push was helped by late-innings hitting from Bilawal Bhatti who scored 40 off just 16 balls as Alfreton ended on 302.

Alfreton were confident going into the second half of the game and that confidence grew when early wickets for Bhatti, Gwatkin and Jonathon Clarke left Cutthorpe on 62-3.

However, this brought Andrew Thompson (104) and Linton Terblanche (93). That was before Gwatkin ripped through the middle order, before Bhatti finished off proceedings, crashing through the tail.

Alfreton now have a crucial fixture against Matlock on Saturday which also sees a player reunion taking place from 1pm. Any ex-players are welcome.
