DUFFIELD Cricket Club first XI’s fine start to the season continued with a 27-point haul in a low-scoring game at Aston-on-Trent, the victory putting them into second place in the Derbyshire County League division two table.

Aston-on-Trent (8pts) 161 all out [41 overs] (F Shabbir 30, W Eisenberg 4-34, S Barlow 3-36) lost to Duffield (27pts) 179 all out [46 overs] (Clarke 34, W Fazal 33, M Kaleem 3-53, A Rehman 3-45) by 18 runs.

In division 5N, Duffield seconds secured a winning draw against Clay Cross.

Duffield (19pts) 286-4 [43 overs] (R King 106*, S Madina 102) drew with Clay Cross (9pts) 209-9 [49 overs] (J Carley 83, A Woodhouse 54, M Antill 6-57).

Denby

In division one, Denby firsts recorded a fine five-wicket success at Matlock.

Matlock (6pts) 222-6 [50 overs] (K Leatherday 60, A Rogers 53*, P Burgoyne 3-50, J Greenhalgh 3-58) lost to Denby (22pts) 223-5 [48.5 overs] (S Bhatt 77, C Durham 42, J Greenhalgh 36, E Lander 3-52) by 5 wickets.

In division 2, Denby seconds held out for a losing draw at South Wingfield.

Sunday saw an early cup exit for Denby thirds who wentr down at Clifton seconds by 43 runs.

Clifton 2nd XI 183-7 [45 overs] (W Wilson 51, R Jones 49* M Glenn 5-37) beat Denby 3rd XI 140 all out [42 overs] (T Mounsey 65, W Wilson 3-14) by 43 runs.
