FA Carlsberg Vase, 5th roun
Coalville Town 3
Holbrook Sports 1
WITH neither side ever reaching the fifth round before, it was always going to be a keenly-contested tie and so it proved.
Holbrook had a near-full strength squad to choose from with only suspended club captain Robbie Harrison missing out.
In front of a crowd of 321, Coalville settled the quicker and dominated much of the early play.
A home left-wing cross was met in the six yard box but Simon Lillie spectacularly tipped over from a point-blank header.
Coalville continued to make all the play with Holbrook appearing to be suffering from early nerves.
On 31 minutes the hosts got their ereward when Stuart Cameron excellently curled a free kick around the wall and into the bottom corner form 1-0.
This seemed to stir Holbrook into life but Simon Lillie still had to make another good save down to his left hand post before half time.
Holbrook started the second half in good style and were level on 51 minutes. Neat work downj the right from Emeka Ejiofor and Dave Hind saw a cross from the right collected by Marc Finlay and his quick turn and shot form an acute angle found the back of the net.
Holbrook were now in the descendency and on 70 minutes Coalville’s centre half Leigh Everitt was sent off after he brought down Finlay to halt a great surging run.
The last 20 minutes saw Holbrook lay seige on the home goal but they could not getting the decisive goal.
As the tie went into extra time it looked to be in Holbrook’s hands but Coalville had chance to regroup.
Sports tried to get the winner but were denied by a post.
On 102 minutes Holbrook needlessly lost the ball in midfield and a subsequent breakaway by home substitute Matt Moore was excellently converted as his speed took him away from the Holbrook defence before rounding keeper Lillie to slot home.
This seemed to deflate the valiant visitors and in the second half of extra time Matt Moore again scored to put the tie beyond Holbrook.
