Finals decided by penalty shoot-outs

TWO county cup finals were decided in the week and both were won on penalty shoot-outs.

Firstly, Allenton United took the Derbyshire FA Divisional Cup (South) as they emerged victorious against MRA Division One promotion chasers Derby Royals and then Allenton United Reserves edged out Woolley Moor United in the Derbyshire County FA Junior Cup (South).

In league action on Saturday, Allenton beat Melbourne Dynamo 6-3 to move within two points of the Premier Division title.

Matt Brian scored all three of the Dynamo goals.

Willington made sure of the runners-up spot by beating Newmount with the only goal of the game scored by Brett O’Donnell.

Belper United continued their climb up the table after beating Cromford 3-2.

Jay Harrison, Blake Beardsley and Paul White netting the United goals.

Ashover secured an important away win over Holbrook St Michaels thanks to goals from Dave Kirk and Ant Lynham.

Swanwick Pentrich Road brought Rowsley ‘86’s winning run to a halt in the grand manner with a 5-1 win over them. Jordan McRobie hit a brace for Swanwick with the other goals coming from Danny Ball, Ady Whitmore and Shane Whitmore.

Stuart Baker and Carl Moore scored for Wirksworth Town as they beat Long Eaton United Reserves 2-0.

There was something of a shock at the top of division one with Matlock Sports winning 1-0 at Derby Royals, the result gaining in importance with the demise of Shirland Athletic who look set to have all of their results expunged from.

Another shock was the 5-1 defeat suffered by Little Eaton against Derbyshire Amateurs, Craig Pepper with the Eaton goal.

Rob Whittingham and Paul Robinson both scored for Bargate Rovers as they saw off Findern 2-1.

Dan Ellis bagged two goals and Nick Fairbrother one for Pastures as they beat Holbrook St Michaels Reserves 3-2.

Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure Reserves won 2-1 at Punjab United.

In division two, there was a big win for Derby Singh Brothers as they won 3-1 away at fellow title chasers Rowsley ‘86 Reserves for whom Billy Lester scored.

The team to really benefit from that result were Woolley Moor United who beat Wirksworth Ivanhoe 3-0 with goals from Adam Wragg, Paul Marrow and Steve Burrell.

KieronRyder scored twice and Adam Buxton once for Mickleover RBL Reserves in their 3-0 win over Wirksworth Town Reserves.

Andy Stevenson netted for Ambergate in a 1-1 draw at Roe Farm.

Punjab United Reserves shaded Pastures Reserves 2-1 with Aaron Pegg netting for Pastures.

Thomas Childs and Ryan Bromyard were the scorers for Selston Reserves in their 2-1 win over Hilton Harriers.
