Belper Town fell at the first hurdle in the Derbyshire Senior Cup last Tuesday evening at the hands of Borrowash Victoria, a game which came alive in the final ten minutes.
Three well taken goals were on show at Christchurch Meadow that night, but sadly two of them went to the Nailers’ opponents.
Sam Kellogg and David Hind scored for the Vics and Jon Froggatt netted either side of the two opposing goals, a finish which the fans are more than accustomed to witnessing as the Nailers’ number nine placed the ball into the far corner with a first time drive.
Belper Town’s next fixture comes in the Evo-Stik League First Division South, away to Market Drayton Town on Saturday. The home side team currently sit 18th in the table with 22 points.
This will be a vital game for the Nailers, who will be expecting three points in their push for promotion this season as they currently sit in fifth position with 35 points, 12 points adrift from the current league leaders Leek Town.
As league tables compare however, the Nailers currently sit top of the league in the Evo-Stik Division One South ‘Fair Play’ League.
The fewest cautions for dissent makes for a healthy looking squad and shows distinct professionalism and attitude on and off the field throughout the squad,a fact that will please the manager as Peter Duffield consistently demands ‘the right attitude and commitment’ in his team.
However, manners aside, it’s now time to see the Nailers ‘bark and bite’ in their football as a ruthless streak will be required to gain promotion and begin a run of results to push them onwards and upwards in the division.
The latest set of results have not been promising for Duffield’s men. However the desired ‘bounce-back’ ability has been a key factor in this team, which has often seen a couple of bad results put right by two or three comprehensive victories.
The next set of performances and resultsremain to be seen, and one hopes that Belper Town will be celebrating their Christmas in a strong position, starting with their next fixture away to The Gingerbread Men on Saturday (3pm kick off).
