Alfreton Sunday League review

AMBER ATHLETIC are going to be a force to reckon with in Division Two (writes Peter Stone). After the season’s opening seven goal haul, they added another five in disposing of NORMANTON UNITED 5-3. Ash Edkins got a couple to include a penalty kick; Matt Wilders also. Bobby Thomas scored their other goal with Aaron Gordon striking twice for the visitors.

Richard Elliott opened the scoring for HAYLOFT, but Paul Hodgson had evened things up for opponents RIPLEY WHITE LION by the break.

The second half belonged to Matthew Byard who rattled in a quick-fire hat trick to seal a 4-1 home win.

In a free-scoring encounter, HOLMEWOOD FC edged out RIDDINGS ROVERS 6-5. Stevie Adams notched four, with Justin Deakin and Reece Sawyers weighing in with the others.

Derek Shay and Chris Turner were amongst the scorers for the visitors.

Another tight affair saw RAILWAY (Alfreton) ease past TIBSHELF WHITE HART 4-3; this after the visitors had gone into the break with a 2-0 lead. Jay Cooper got a couple in the second half fight back and Lee Berry also scored. Craig Parker, Danny Harris and Aaron Benford all registered for the visitors.

Chris Boyle had given RAILWAY TAVERN an early lead that they held on to until late in the game, when their opponents THE WHEEL nicked the points with late strikes that earned them a 2-1 win.

In Division One, Steven Guyler scored for CODNOR MINERS ARMS for the second successive week. However, goals from Neil Cope and Dan Storer were enough to give the visiting CORONATION CLUB all three points as they triumphed 2-1.

Brett Gibb scored for SHIRLAND MW but they were unable to contain visitors WESTWOOD ROYAL OAK who ran out 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Haslam, Downing and Widdowson.

RAINBOW INTERNATIONAL and MARLPOOL WHITE LION shared the spoils in a six goal thriller, whilst the scheduled fixture involving CRIB and DERBY ATHLETIC was called off.

ALLIANCE HEALTHCARE won their Division 3 game against SEVEN STARS 3-1; their goals coming via Brady Parker, Matt Vardy and Andy Hodgkinson. Nathan Ball replied for the visitors.

BULLS HEAD and MARLPOOL UNITED could not be separated after 90 minutes; the score 1-1. Matt McGinness scored for the home team.

Toby Wright scored with a spectacular 40 yard lob over the goalkeeper, but that proved to be the highlight for his side GLADIATORS who, despite battling to the end, were unable to match visitors OUT OF TOWN who scored a convincing 6-1 win.

A Tim Stone hat trick led the way whilst Rob Spencer (2) and Ryan Steeples also featured on the score sheet.

HILCOTE MW were unable to repeat their heroics of the previous week and fell to a 2-6 home defeat at the hands of BOUNDARY ATHLETIC.

GALLOWS INN beat HEANOR STAFF 5-3.
