Ambergate FC blew a comfortable 3-1 half time lead at Derby Rolls-Royce Reserves on Saturday in the Midlands Regional Alliance Division One as they conceded a fourth goal in the dying minutes.

Against the run of play, it was Rolls-Royce that took the lead. The defence was split apart as Richard Briggs and Matt Baker chased back. The forward’s shot was blocked by Baker but the rebound was tucked away under Newton.

Ambergate’s response was good and they quickly turned the game around with two quick goals. Ryan Walters knocked the ball in from close range and then he drilled a second goal in from the edge of the area.

Ambergate’s tails were up and they looked to get more goals. A third came after good work between Walters, Aston and Robinson ended with a Walters backheel falling into the path of Robinson to fire home.

Rolls-Royce started the second half the better side but Ambergate were always dangerous going forward with chances going close from Walter and Richard Tomlinson.

Rolls-Royce got themselves back into the game with half an hour left as their midfielder picked up the ball on the edge of the area and drilled the ball into the top corner.

With just over ten minutes left, Rolls-Royce were awarded a penalty as Matt Baker upended a forward. This was coolly placed low into the net.

With ten minutes, remaining Matt Magill received a second yellow card for a reckless challenge on the Rolls-Royce winger.

Ambergate were now under the cosh trying to save a point but a long ball forwarded was poorly defended and the Rolls-Royce forward turned and saw his deflected shot trickle inside the post for the winner with three minutes left.

A disappointing end following a confident opening hour but naivety cost the club in the end.

However, Ambergate Reserves extended their unbeaten league run to six games as they drew at home against third placed Sandiacre Town Reserves 1-1. Shane Linthwaite put Ambergate in front before Sandiacre responded.

This Saturday the first team are at home (Whitemoor) to Derby Singh Brothers and the reserves are at home (Heage) to Roe Farm, both 3pm kick offs.
