Ambergate’s promotion hopes extinguished

Midlands Regional Alliance

Ambergate FC 1

Mackworth St Francis 3

Ambergate’s faint promotion hopes where extinguished by a strong Mackworth team still in the title race.

A bright start by Ambergate saw them go into the lead, an exquisite through-ball from Shaun Welch well finished by Wayne Randall.

Mackworth grew into the game though and equalised before half-time as a Craig Tipton hand-ball gifted the visitors a penalty which was coolly despatched.

A reasonably even first-half ended 1-1.

The second half began in the same vein as the sides traded chances.

Stevenson had the best of Ambergate’s, but midway through the half a quick breakaway saw Mackworth grab the lead.

And not long after they added a third goal to seal victory wich a powerful header.

It was probably a deserved victory for a well-organised team and they look set for promotion.

Ambergate have three games left and can still finish in a respectable fourth place in the table.
