Derbyshire Senior Cup

Derbyshire Senior Cup Third round

Belper Town 3, Derby County 9

BELPER Town exited this season’s Derbyshire Senior Cup at the first hurdle as they were overpowered by Derby County on Tuesday evening.

Derby had a wealth of first team talent with ten of the starting XI having had first team experience.

The Rams went ahead after just six minutes when Tomasz Cywka’s deep cross deceived Belper keeper Andy Richmond and landed in the far corner of the net.

The Nailers were level just four minutes later. New loan signing from Scunthorpe United Aron Winter let fly with a tremendous free kick from 40 yards out which Rams keeper Adam Legzdins parried but Belper captain Ben Leonard was on hand to head home the loose ball.

Cywka restored Derby’s advantage on 20 minutes when he rifled a shot into the far corner.

Substitute Dave Martin made it 3-1 only three minutes after coming on then Cywka saw a powerful effort hit the woodwork.

Belper went further behind eight minutes into the second half when Alex Witham netted a low, angled drive.

The Nailers pulled one back with a mighty header from Charlie Weir but Lee Croft netted soon after to put Derby 5-2 up on 63 minutes with a neat volley.

The goals continued to flow and Martin added his second of the tie with an individual effort from just outside the penalty area.

A low drive by Chris Maguire stretched the lead to 7-2 on 70 minutes, Wint pulled one back for Belper with a terrific free kick for 7-3 but the Rams hit back immediately and Greg Wright netted an own goal for 8-3.

The rout was concluded by Maguire on 83 minutes with a lovely chip into the top corner.
