Belper United recorded a 4-1 victory on Saturday over Calverton MW in the Central Midlands League.

Belper started brightly and should have scored after only 45 seconds. Josh Wisdom broke free in a one-on-one but failed to round the goalkeeper and five minutes later in exactly the same scenario Sam Vickers rounded the keeper only to see the ball run out play.

Numerous chances followed until United finally took the lead on 20 minutes when a Sam Vickers corner was headed in by captain Scott Slater.

The game followed the same pattern for the rest of the half and Belper United scored a deserved second goal through Scott Clapperton after 40 minutes.

After 47 minutes, Belper United made it 3-0. Great play by Slater on the right saw the ball played into the six-yard box and Josh Wisdom scored.

Ten minutes later, United scored the goal of the game, Sam Vickers receiving the ball on the halfway line, easily turning inside the defender before laying a excellent through ball to Joe Conkleton who ran on and smashed the ball home from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Belper United continued to threaten the Calverton goal but a mixture of excellent goalkeeping and poor finishing kept the score down.

After 75 minutes, Calverton MW scored a consolation goal.

Steve Watson said: “We totally dominated this game and on another day could have scored more goals.”

Their next game is tonight (Wednesday) away to Mickleover (7.45pm).
