Former Brookies’ player Darren Ruston earned a point for Ellistown after Simeon Oshoboke had opened the scoring for Holbrook Sports in a 1-1 draw that will be remembered for poor finishing from both teams.
In a very open game, Holbrook started brightly and were ahead after eight minutes.
Ellistown equalised after a defensive lapse from Palmer, who misjudged his headed back pass and Darren Ruston capitalisedto coolly lob the stranded goalkeeper to make it 1-1 at half-time.
The second half was similar to the first with both sides creating chances.
Alas both sets of forwards were guilty of not capitalising in front of goal.
Ellistown had a chance to take all three points when they were awarded a penalty with 15 minutes remaining.
Another former Holbrook player, Gavin Whitehead, stepped up to take the kick, but missed the target.
Both teams still had chances to claim all three points but could not take them and the the scoreline reflected a pretty even game.
Manager Paul Romney said: “We started brightly and after we went one up we failed to extend our lead.
He added: “We were disappointed to come away from the game with one point, but Ellistown worked hard and made it difficult at times for us.
“Although if we could have taken our chances, we could have finished them off before they equalised.”
