DANNY Allsop struck twice, to include an opening 25 yard screamer, but his efforts proved to be in vain as his CORONATION CLUB side exited the Dick Windle Cup at the hands of in-form MARLPOOL WHITE LION.
Matt Brittle got a couple, Nick Scuffins and Scott Pickworth one apiece and a Darren Thompson own goal added up to a 5-2 triumph for the visitors.
In a miserable first half where the ball seemed to be competing with the sun for control of the sky, chances in the game between RAILWAY TAVERN and HEANOR STAFFS were non-existent and the blank interval score line inevitable. The deadlock was, though, broken soon after the restart when a cross cum centre from home full back Adam Pynegar ended up in the net. Striker Chris Burrows sealed the 2-0 win with a more genuine effort in the later stages of a game that did improve from its humble beginnings.
RAILWAY INN let slip a 3-1 lead as AFC SOUTH NORMANTON pegged them back to take their tie into extra time; the visitors going on to record what had earlier seemed an unlikely 5-3 win. Jay Cooper got a couple for Railway and Hemmings the other.
The big game went the way of JACKSDALE MW who overcame the challenge posed by DERBY ATHLETIC to record a 3-2 away win. Ross Webster and Shaun Dunn netted for the home team but responses from Darren Haslam and Mark Downing (2) ensured Westwood’s passage into the next round of a competition for which they are emerging as one of the favourites.
SHIRLAND MW also go through, but by default, as their scheduled opponents THE WHEEL were unable to field a side.
There was a surprise in Alfreton Insurance Division One as lowly CODNOR MINERS upset CRIB 5-4. The home team were in cruise control after establishing a five goal lead via Andrew Fretwell (2), Luke Gent, Steven Guyler and Tom Hawkins before Crib came roaring back to almost snatch a point that their late, late show might have merited.
Second division pace-setters AMBER ATHLETIC came a cropper at home to HAYLOFT who walked away with a 5-4 victory. Kye Rodgers, Matt Wilders, Adam Thomas and Matt Wright got the goals for the league leaders but they were rocked by strikes from Richard Everett, Matt Byard (2), Anthony Rowley and Ian McCaffrey. The visitors still fancy their chances for the top and this victory bodes well for their quest.
HOLMEWOOD MW are also in the mix and they did their cause no harm with a resounding 8-1 win over NORMANTON UNITED; their goal scorers Ashley Morton (2), Justin Deakin, Michael Saville, Keaton Holland, Martin Fantom, Steve Adams and Robert Holland.
The Jack Vickers Cup saw BULLS HEAD progress to the next round after disposing of MARLPOOL UNITED 4-2, whilst a single goal from GLADIATORS’ Simon Bridge was enough to see his side into the next round at the expense of ALLIANCE HEALTHCARE.
The tie between SEVEN STARS and HILCOTE MW finished all square at 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes but the visitors asserted in extra time to register a 5-3 win.
